What does ChatGPT say about Lebanese wine?
I turned to artificial intelligence to get a summary of "the internet"
I’m working on a longer piece about the Lebanese wine narrative and if/how it’s changed in recent years.
To get a feel for where we are now beyond my own analysis, I asked the robots what the internet’s been saying since that’s their source material. I don’t recommend taking anything A.I.-generated at face value but I’m using it as a way to assess what information about Lebanese wine is being reinforced by getting published repeatedly. Essentially, I’m using A.I. to evaluate if the rest of us human writers are doing a good job of explaining the Lebanon.
Currently, it is hard to source credible and up-to-date information about Lebanese wine online so I can see writers turning to these constantly-improving aggregators for summaries. I’ve periodically checked what ChatGPT generates about Lebanese wine and it’s come a long way. Here are some answers I got on Monday (June 17, 2024):
It doesn’t get into the nitty-gritty, it is repetitive, and it’s still living in a pre-January 2022 world. The answers I’ve included above give us an idea of what’s already been talked about and it’s decent…but they’re also vague word salads that could be said about lots of different wine regions.
When I asked it what the most commonly used sentences used to describe Lebanon were, of the six examples it gave, this one stuck out:
"Known for its resilient spirit, Lebanon is a country of contrasts, blending scenic beauty with bustling urban life."
I’ll leave you with that and the below meme for now.
The meme is perfection.
