If I could ask a genie to recreate my favorite TV costumes and Victorian gothic looks from fashion runways, these would be on my moodboard for the fittings. I love vampy noir, lace meets leather, shoulder pads. I also love expert tailoring. Whenever I gush over an embellished blazer or military field jacket, my friend teases my “Michael Jackson” taste.

I aspire to dress like this but alas, I spend the majority of my days in sweatpants and graphic Ts ever since COVID lockdown. Is it time to reinvigorate this side of myself outside of Witchy Week? Hell, even inside of it?

Eiko Ishioka’s red dress in Coppola’s Dracula (1992)

Mina Harker, played by Winona Ryder, wears a ruffled red gown that takes “red dress” to new heights. It also photographs beautifully in black and white as you saw at the beginning of this post. I’d add more photos but I recommend you watch the film. The visuals make up for the subpar effects and acting.

Speaking of Winnie, at last year’s Venice Film Festival, she wore a Chanel tux-dress in honor of her role as Lydia Deetz in the sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
